Christmas: PCRC Celebrates Police Officers, Calls for Public Support and Improved Welfare, Distributes Food To Personnel

The Natonal Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan has commended officers of the Nigeria Police Force for their dedication and sacrifice, especially during the Christmas season when many remain on duty to protect lives and property across the country.

Speaking during a nationwide appreciation outreach, Olaniyan noted that while many Nigerians are celebrating with their families, a large percentage of police officers—particularly junior personnel—are deployed on security duties. He said the PCRC, from the national level down to divisions, considers it a responsibility to identify with officers who continue to serve despite personal sacrifices.

According to him, the initiative is also aimed at appreciating the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, describing the PCRC as a “partner in progress” to the Nigeria Police. He stressed that the committee would continue to support the police leadership and serve as a bridge between the Force and the public.

Olaniyan revealed that the PCRC is supporting no fewer than 6,000 police families nationwide as part of its end-of-year programme, with visits to police divisions and commands across the Federal Capital Territory and other states. He explained that the primary beneficiaries of the initiative are junior police officers, while other beneficiaries remain secondary.

He urged Nigerians to show appreciation to security personnel during the festive season, noting that even simple gestures such as offering water or soft drinks to officers on duty can go a long way. He also called on churches and corporate organisations to include the Nigeria Police among their priority beneficiaries during festive and end-of-year goodwill gestures.

The PCRC chairman further disclosed that the committee has consistently engaged the National Assembly on police welfare issues, including pension reforms, and plans to intensify advocacy for improved salary structures and welfare packages for police officers. He added that the committee would also appeal to the President to promptly assent to relevant bills once passed.

Highlighting other achievements, the PCRC National Chairman said the PCRC has awarded scholarships to children of police officers who died in active service, supported dozens of deserving officers with awards and financial assistance, repaired patrol vehicles, and contributed to the rebuilding of police stations across several states.

He assured that the committee would not relent in its advocacy and support for the Nigeria Police, pledging continued engagement, prayers, and public advocacy to ensure better welfare and motivation for officers serving the nation.

Responding, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, ably represented by the Head of Administration, Force Public Relations Department, SP Steven Kuti, expressed deep appreciation to the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) for its consistent and timely support to the Nigeria Police Force.

He conveyed gratitude on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police and the Force Public Relations Officer, noting that the PCRC’s yearly intervention, especially during the Christmas season—a period of giving—has always been cherished by the police. He described the gesture as one the Force is always grateful for and thanked the National Chairman and members of the PCRC for their continued partnership.

SP Kuti further highlighted the exemplary leadership and spirit of unity demonstrated by the PCRC National Chairman, Alajumanga G. Alanya, stressing that his actions transcend religious boundaries.

He recalled instances where the Chairman, a Muslim, actively participated in Christian gatherings, including attending church services, as a clear demonstration of unity and mutual respect. He emphasized that such conduct encourages harmony, showing that leadership and goodwill should not be defined by religious affiliation but by genuine commitment to peace and inclusiveness.

He concluded by underscoring that understanding and mutual respect between Muslims and Christians are key to national cohesion. He noted that both faiths worship the same God and that misconceptions often fuel unnecessary divisions.

With continued love, cooperation, and examples like that of the PCRC Chairman, he expressed confidence that unity would flourish nationwide. He thanked all present for their warm reception, reaffirmed brotherhood beyond religious lines, and prayed for sustained harmony as the PCRC proceeds with the distribution of the support items.

The leadership of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan earlier visited Police Service Commission, and Ministry of Police Affairs to presented Christmas gifts.
