In a bid to promote self-reliance and boost the socio-economic well-being of women, the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), in collaboration with the Christopher Oghogho Foundation, today launched a Women Empowerment Initiative in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.
The programme is designed to equip women with entrepreneurial skills and resources to enable them to become financially independent and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
Speaking at the event, the President of DEPOWA, Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa, expressed her commitment to improving the lives of women, especially those in rural areas who face economic challenges.
“Our goal is to empower women with the right tools and knowledge to break the cycle of poverty and become agents of positive change in their communities,” she said.
Mrs. Musa commended the Christopher Oghogho Foundation for partnering with DEPOWA on the initiative, stressing that collaboration was key to driving sustainable development. She urged beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunities provided and pass on the knowledge gained to others.
The empowerment programme featured training sessions in various vocational skills such as tailoring, catering, and small-scale business management. Start-up kits were also distributed to participants to help them establish their businesses.
Representatives of the Christopher Oghogho Foundation reaffirmed their dedication to supporting women-focused projects and pledged continued partnership with DEPOWA to reach more communities across the country.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing it as a lifeline that would enable them to improve their livelihoods and secure a brighter future for their families.
The event was attended by local government officials, community leaders, and women’s groups, underscoring the growing importance of collaborative efforts in tackling poverty and promoting gender equality in Nigeria.
