Gen. Musa: African Military Games 2024 a 'Shining Example' of Peace and Collaboration, As Nigeria Wins 234 Medals

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa has said the second edition of the African Military Games 2024 is a shining example of how sports can serve as a bridge for peace and collaboration. 

General Musa who was the Chief Host said this while delivering his closing remarks at the closing ceremony of the second edition of the Africa Military Games Abuja 2024 noting that These games go beyond mere competition. 

He said the Games remind us of the collective strength of Africa. "When we come together in a world facing diverse security challenges, it is crucial that we as military forces continue to find innovative ways to foster cooperation and mutual understanding."

General Musa who called on the National Sports Commission to ensure that sports is restore in Nigeria to compete effectively in Africa revealed that there were no casualties recorded during the event, a testament to the fitness, preparedness and professionalism of athletes. 
He said this remarkable outcome underscores the discipline and training that are hallmarks of our military institutions again across Africa. 

He congratulated all the teams that competed in the edition of the Games. 
"While the medals and trophies represent the pinnacle of achievement, I must emphasize that in these games, irrespective of ranking or position, every team is a winner. 

"The courage, skill and sportsmanship exhibited on the fields, tracks and courts have been nothing short of inspiring. 
We are proving that victory is not just about crossing the finish line first, but about embodying the values of unity and resilience."

The Nigeria's CDS commended every participant for their commitment to excellence, whether on the field, track or court. 

"Each of you, by donning the colors of your nation, has upheld the values of honor, resilience and unity. 
To the victors, I say congratulations. And to those who may not have won medals, know that your participation has enriched this event and reinforce the spirit of the Games. 

"I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to the organizing committee, volunteers and all personnel who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the success this event. 
Your meticulous planning and execution have not only brought pride to Nigeria, but also to the continent as a whole. 

"As we draw the curtain on this memorial occasion, let us carry forward the lessons of unity and friendship that these games have impacted.  lMay we continue to work together as a collective force for a safer and more prosperous Nigeria." he added

Earlier in his remarks, President of Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), Maj.-Gen. Abdullahi Maikano said the camaraderie and discipline that has flourished during these games is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we stand together. 

"May these African Games inspire us to combine fostering peace, cooperation and mutual respect among our nation. That reminds me of the adage that says, united we stand, divided we fall. Together we have celebrated our strength of our military values, our shared commitment of Greater Africa with brighter futures. 

"We have witnessed extraordinary displays of skills, determination and sportsmanship showcasing the very base of the continent of Africa. These games have not only been platform for competition, but also a celebration of shared values of unity. We have seen athletes from diverse transcending borders differences, unity by common purpose to honor our nations and the ideals we stand for and we stand by. We the African Armed Forces. 

"Each event was not just a contest of strength and skills, but a testimony of your hard work, discipline, unwavering spirits and cooperation. You have represented your countries with pride and achievement. This will no doubt resonate far beyond this game and far beyond this closing ceremony."he said

Chairman of the organizing Committee, Airbus Marshal et Marquis  reiterated deepest appreciation to everyone present and to international guests, He wished them a safe journey back to their respective countries. 

Over the past several days, the National Stadium in Abuja has been a hub of camaraderie, excellence and sportsmanship.
Under the theme; “Enhancing Military Cooperation in Africa through Sports”, we have witnessed a powerful demonstration of how sports can bridge boundaries, foster friendship and strengthening bonds among the Armed Forces of Africa. 

Dignitaries at the closing ceremony of the 2nd edition of Africa Military Games were Vice President Kashim Shettima,
Former COAS, Ambassador Lt General Tukur Buratai (Rtd),  Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya (Rtd), Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, OSMA founding Father, Major General Ishola Williams (rtd), Borno State Governor Zulum amongst others.

SpyeTV News reports that this year's edition, featured participants from 20 nations, which is a testament to the increasing solidarity and collaboration among African military forces. 
The athletes have showcased not just their physical prowess, but also their dedication, discipline and determination, qualities that define the military ethos. 

At the end of the 2024 AMGA, Nigeria won overwhelming with an overall 234 medals, comprising of 114 gold, 65 silver and 55 bronze.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation was followed by Algeria in distant second with a total of 96 medals – 64 gold, 22 silver and 22 bronze.

Occuppying the third position is Kenya with 50 medal, made up of 21 gold, 17 silver and 12 bronze.
