Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued kidnapped victims and recovered rustled cattle following attacks by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on communities in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The operation followed intelligence reports of attacks on Tuwo, Wayewaye and Kestu villages, prompting troops of 1 Battalion, 8 Division, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to conduct a fighting patrol to the affected communities on October 27, 2026.
The patrol was aimed at reassuring residents, restoring confidence among the affected communities and denying the terrorists freedom of action.
On arrival, the troops discovered that some residents had fled their homes for safety, while several houses had been set ablaze. An unconfirmed number of cattle were also reportedly rustled during the attacks.
According to report, troops made initial contact with the terrorists as they advanced into the affected areas. However, the assailants fled upon sighting the advancing soldiers, unable to withstand the troops’ superior firepower.
During the operation, the soldiers rescued some kidnapped victims and recovered some of the rustled cattle, which were immediately handed over to members of the affected communities.
The Army said patrols were still ongoing across Koko communities in Shanga LGA to deter further attacks, prevent the movement of terrorists and ensure the safety of residents.
The operation underscores the ongoing efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect vulnerable communities, rescue kidnapped persons and disrupt the activities of terrorist groups across the North-West.
