Nigerian Army Reinforces Security in Sokoto as GOC 8 Division Inspects Frontline Positions in Sabon Birni

 

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Paul Bengba Koughna, on Thursday, 23 July 2026, conducted an operational visit to Forward Operating Base (FOB) Sabon Birni and Takasaba Outpost in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The GOC was accompanied by the Commander 8 Division Garrison, Brigadier General AJ Mohammed, as part of ongoing efforts to assess troops’ operational readiness and strengthen security measures in response to threats posed by the Lakurawa terrorist group in the area.

During the visit, Major General Koughna interacted with troops deployed at the forward locations, commending their commitment and professionalism in safeguarding communities. He encouraged them to remain vigilant, maintain high operational standards, and sustain the ongoing offensive against criminal elements.

The GOC also met with members of the local communities, reassuring them of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence that would aid ongoing operations against terrorists and other criminal groups.

The visit, which was aimed at boosting troop morale and reinforcing public confidence in the military’s security efforts, was completed successfully without any security incidents. It forms part of Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s sustained efforts to deny terrorists freedom of action and ensure lasting peace across the North West region.
