PCRC Strengthens Police Operations in Abuja With Fuel Support for New Unit

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force with the donation of 250 litres of petrol to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, aimed at facilitating the take-off of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit.

The donation was made during a visit by the National Chairman of the PCRC, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, who led national executives, FCT command officials, and other members of the committee to the Command Headquarters in Garki II, Abuja.

Speaking during the visit, Olaniyan commended the leadership style and operational efficiency of the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, describing his approach to policing as exceptional and impactful.

He noted that the committee was motivated to identify with what he termed a “God-fearing and proactive leadership,” adding that the CP’s strategies have significantly constrained criminal activities not only within the FCT but also in neighbouring states.

Olaniyan also praised the Inspector-General of Police for his leadership and reform-driven agenda, stating that the current direction of the force has inspired renewed confidence among stakeholders and the public.

Highlighting the purpose of the visit, the PCRC Chairman described the fuel donation as a symbolic gesture intended to encourage broader public participation in supporting security agencies.

“Nothing is too small. We are using this action to call on members of the public to support the police with resources such as vehicles, tyres, and fuel. Security is a collective responsibility and should not be left to the government alone,” he said.

He further emphasized the readiness of the PCRC at the national level to continue supporting police commands across the country, particularly where effective leadership and commitment to service are evident.

In his response, CP Sanusi expressed gratitude to the PCRC for its consistent partnership and support, describing the donation as timely and impactful.

He assured that the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit would operate in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police and justify the confidence reposed in it by the public.

According to him, the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen the security architecture of the FCT and enhance rapid response to violent crimes.

The Commissioner also stressed the importance of unity within the PCRC structure, urging the national leadership to ensure proper coordination among state and divisional chapters to avoid internal divisions that could undermine the committee’s effectiveness.

He further called for stricter measures in the issuance of PCRC membership identification and documentation to prevent misuse of the platform by unauthorized individuals.

“PCRC is a powerful and respected body. It is important to ensure that only credible individuals are admitted into its membership to preserve its integrity and public trust,” Sanusi said.

The meeting was attended by PCRC members drawn from national, zonal, and state chapters, underscoring the committee’s collective support for ongoing police reforms and community-driven security initiatives.
