The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening its partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) to enhance the welfare and housing conditions of police personnel.
The IGP gave this assurance while receiving the Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, Shehu Usman Osidi, and members of his management team at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, describing the engagement as a reflection of the IGP’s commitment to strategic partnerships that advance the welfare of police officers and men.
He commended the FMBN leadership for its ongoing support to the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in the area of housing finance and other welfare-related disbursements, which he said had earned strong commendation from senior police officers present at the meeting.
“I want to thank you on behalf of members of the Nigeria Police Force for the impactful initiatives you have implemented. The applause you received from senior officers here reflects our appreciation. I encourage you to keep up the good work,” the IGP said.
The police chief acknowledged the critical role of the Federal Mortgage Bank in promoting affordable housing, financial inclusion, and social stability, especially for public servants, and assured the bank of the Force’s support for initiatives aimed at improving officers’ welfare.
He emphasized that welfare and security are closely linked, adding that institutional partnerships such as the one between the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Mortgage Bank significantly contribute to national development.
As part of efforts to deepen the collaboration, the IGP announced the appointment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Logistics and Supply as the Liaison Officer between the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Mortgage Bank.
According to him, the appointment marks the beginning of a more robust and structured relationship, aimed at leveraging the partnership to deliver tangible welfare benefits to police personnel across the country.
Earlier in his remarks, the Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Shehu Usman Osidi, commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his open leadership style and reforms aimed at strengthening professionalism, operational efficiency, and public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
Osidi outlined FMBN’s statutory mandate under the National Housing Fund (NHF) Scheme, noting that the bank provides single-digit, low-interest mortgage products designed to make home ownership accessible to Nigerian workers, including police personnel. He listed key offerings such as the NHF Mortgage Loan of up to ₦50 million at six percent interest, individual construction loans, rent-to-own housing schemes, home renovation loans, cooperative housing development financing, and non-interest mortgage products. He added that the Nigeria Police Force remains one of FMBN’s most strategic partners, with officers benefiting from mortgage, renovation, and corporate housing development loans across several states of the federation.
The FMBN Managing Director disclosed that the bank has supported hundreds of police housing units nationwide, refunded NHF contributions to thousands of retired officers, and collaborated closely with the Police to update over 139,000 NHF contribution records to ensure seamless access to benefits. He reaffirmed FMBN’s commitment to deepening the partnership with the Nigeria Police Force, describing it as a shared responsibility to enhance welfare, morale, and stability for officers who serve the nation, while expressing optimism for stronger collaboration in the years ahead.
