House Committee on Police Affairs In First Closed-Door Meeting with IGP Over Unrest in North West

 


It's the first time the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs would visit the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun at Force Headquarters, Abuja since the inauguration and after the ruling of the Speaker of the house, Tajudeen Abbas mandated the Committees on Police Affairs and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance of fully iimplemenation of community policing as outlined in section 15 of the Nigeria Police Act 2020 and report back to the house within four weeks.

Today at the Force Headquarters, the Chairman House Committee on Police Affairs, led other members of the committee on a familiarisation visit with the IGP and DIGs and other Management team, to acquaint the house committee members on Police Affairs the working and activities of the Force Headquarters.

According the committee, co-chaired by Sen. Abdulhamid Madori and Rep. Abubakar Yalleman of the committee, considering the menace of security challenges the nation faced for decades, the visit is to avail the IGP and his management team the opportunity  to fairly and interact with the Honourable members and come up with strategic ideas that will further empower and strengthen the Nigeria Police Force. 

In addressing the incisive security challenges such as terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery  and other social vices.  He assured the Nigeria Police Force that the 10th Assembly  under the leadership of Tajudeen Abass will do everything ambient to legislate on hills that will address the security challenges faced  the country for the benefit of all Nigerians.

He thanked Honourable members of the committee who followed him to the Force Headquarters for the familiazation visit with the IGP and the DIG and other Management. 

"Police are trying their best in conjunction with other security agencies and to address the situation of insecurity in the North West, especially in Kaduna." He said 

Responding the Inspector-General of Police,  IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun expressed happiness to play host to the committee on Police Affairs to the Force Headquarters. He thanked the committee for the visit and the support they have been giving Nigeria Police Force since assumption of office. 

"The National Assembly has been. Si supportive of the police since the inception of the 10th Assembly particularly members of the committee on Police Affairs.  Without your support, the much that we have been able to achieve in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria would not have been possible. I believe that with you visit today, we are assured more support form you" ,the IGP said

IGP opined that the committee visit is going to improve the partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the committee. The visiting has been very rewarding. We had very useful interaction especially addressing the kidnapping cases in Kaduna and other areas.
