For continous promotion of the well-being of its members, vulnerable women, and children within the society, the National President of Nigerian Air Force Offices Wives Association NAFOWA, Arc. Mrs Rakiya Abubakar in collaboration with the Headquarters Nigerian Air Force extends its compassionate hand to 100 widows of Nigerian Air Force Fallen Heroes, offering free medical checkups, essential services, as well as providing food items and a cash donation.
The Chief of Air Force also announced the approval of the Nigerian Air Force educational sponsorship up to National level for the children of personnel that died in active service.
The NAFOWA Medical and Humanitarian outreach to our sisters, the widows of NAF Fallen Heroes took place today, Saturday 16th March, 2024 at the NAF Base, Asokoro Abuja.
Presenting the cash and food items in large quantity to beneficiaries, the National Presdient of NAFOWA said today’s outreach is not only a response to the prevailing high cost of living but also a testament to the Association’s ongoing commitment in to aiding those in need.
Arc.Mrs Abubakar added that the outreach in collaboration with Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, is to further One of implement the Chief of the Air Staff's Command Philosophy as it concerns welfare and non- kinetic effort of the military in the society.
It would be recall that NAFOWA recently conducted a humanitarian outreach in Kano State, providing wheelchairs and essential food items to physically challenged individuals.
Similarly, just last week, NAFOWA carried out another impactful outreach at Emene Community of Enugu state, focusing on health care and provision of basic necessities including drugs and essential food items to women and children. Over the past 6 months, more than 1,350 individuals have benefited from NAFOWA'S compassionate initiatives.
"These gestures serve as a poignant reminder to our sisters that we stand steadfastly with you today and always. It is our solemn pledge to continue supporting and dedicating ourselves to your welfare and well-being. In the coming days, we intend to extend this gesture to all widows of NAF Fallen Heroes resident outside Abuja through the various Chairpersons of NAF commands." she said
She therefore requested for the collaboration and support of well-meaning and philanthropic individuals and organizations to join NAFOWA in putting smiles in the faces of the loved ones of gallant personnel who paid the supreme price.
In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar Distinguish Flying Star stressed that this gesture today by NAFOWA is not only highly largely commendable but very timely as it complements the non kinetic efforts of the Nigerian Air Force operations aimed at winning the hearts and minds of Nigerians.
The Air Chief also stated that the outreach program resonates with one of the key enablers of his command philosophy and that is maintaining a highly motivated force by enhancing the welfare of personnel. This is because when serving personnel know that their families should be catered for, even when they are gone, then they will be motivated to perform their duties endlessly.
He emphasized that as part of measures to support families of fallen heroes and wounded warriors, Nigerian Air Force has instituted a group Personal Accident Insurance Policy. In addition to the Ministry of Defenses Group Life Policy for all personnel the Nigerian Air Force Group Personal Accident Policy ensures our personnel against accidents, injuries and deaths whenever such tragedies occur, such so that they can confidently perform their duties knowing that health care and welfare are adequately taken care of.
Additionally, I would like to remind this audience that the children of all personnel who die on active service are entitled to Nigerian Air Force educational sponsorship up to National level. Widows are therefore encouraged to take advantage of this policy for education of their children." he said
He encouraged the beneficiaries of the NAFOWA Medical and Humanitarian outreach and uurge them to remain hopeful and not to give up despite hardships they face. "You are not alone, and it is my firm belief that the grace of the Almighty God will always see you through."
