Troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 12 civilians kidnapped by terrorists and thwarted an attempted abduction in separate operations across Zamfara State.
The operations were conducted on September 7, 2026, in Kaura Namoda and Tsafe Local Government Areas of the state, according to the Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.
In the first incident, troops responded to a distress call following the infiltration of terrorists into a residence at Tsohon Tasha in Kaura Namoda LGA.
The troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight, forcing them to abandon six abducted civilians and flee across a nearby river.
The rescued victims were subsequently evacuated and reunited with their families.
In a separate operation in Tsafe LGA, troops monitoring activities along the Main Supply Route observed terrorists attempting to intercept a Sharon vehicle at Kwanoni village.
The troops swiftly mobilised to the location and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the attempted abduction and retreat into the adjoining bush.
Six civilians were subsequently rescued from the attackers.
The latest operations underscore the continued efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt terrorist activities, deny criminal elements freedom of action and protect lives and property across its Joint Operations Area.
The operation urged members of the public to continue providing security agencies with timely and relevant information to support ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorist elements from the area.
