Army Troops Repel Attacks in Maru, Neutralize Terrorists During Pursuit Operation in Zamfara

Troops of the Nigerian Army under 1 Brigade Quick Response Force (QRF), in collaboration with troops of Combat Team 1, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kanoma, have successfully repelled a terrorist attack in Kanoma District of Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

Military sources disclosed that the troops responded swiftly to the attack at about 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, moving to the scene and making contact with the terrorists at Kanoma Hill.

During the ensuing firefight, the troops engaged the assailants with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat from the area. Although two tyres of a Combat Support Kit (CSK) vehicle belonging to FOB Kanoma were damaged by terrorist gunfire, the temporary setback did not deter the troops’ operations.

Following the successful repulsion of the attack, troops conducted exploitation operations ahead of Kanoma Hill, where they encountered terrorists riding on two motorcycles. The troops immediately engaged the fleeing suspects, neutralizing one terrorist.

Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine loaded with four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and the two motorcycles used by the terrorists. No casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation.
