Russia: CDS, General Musa Joins World Leaders at Russia's Victory Day Celebrations in Moscow

Russia marked the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II with a massive military parade on Red Square in Moscow.

The Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, President Vladimir Putin, alongside foreign leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, attended the “Victory Day” spectacle, celebrated on May 9, is Russia’s most important secular holiday.

The parade and other ceremonies underline Moscow’s efforts to project its global power and cement the alliances it has forged while seeking a counterbalance to the West amid the conflict in Ukraine that has dragged into a fourth year.

The Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa also joined the Wreath Laying Parade on Thu, 8 May 2025 at the Red Square as part of activities to commemorate the 80th Victory Day of the Russian Federation.

The event was in honour of Russian heroes who paid the ultimate price for the Federation during World War II. It took place at about  0900 hrs (GMT+3, Russian time) and was attended by over 40 delegates, including about 32 heads of government.

The CDS was accompanied to the event by the Commander Infantry Corp Maj Gen UA Yusuf and Pricipal General Staff officer to CD Brig Gen Obinna Azuikpe, all of whom participated in the wreath-laying.
