Gala Night: Matawalle, General Musa Urge ECOWAS Defence Chiefs to Reflect on Shared Goals


As part of activities lined up for the 43rd Ordinary Meeting of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff in Nigeria, there was a Gala Nite which marked a significant moment in the ongoing efforts to promote regional security and cooperation within the ECOWAS Community.



The Chief Host and the Chairman of the  ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff, Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, OFR urged guests and Africa Defence Chiefs to take this opportunity to reflect on the shared goals and aspirations that bind them together as members of the ECOWAS Community.

"Let us reaffirm our commitment to working together to promote peace, stability, security and development in our region.

"I am confident that the discussions and deliberations these few days have been fruitful and productive, leading to concrete actions that will further strengthen our collective efforts towards achieving a more secure and prosperous West Africa," he said

General Musa thanked the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, a distinguished leader who has shown unwavering commitment to the defense and security of the region. 

"Your presence here tonight is a testament to the importance you place on the collaboration and partnership among our nations in addressing the security challenges facing our region", he noted.

The Special Guest of Honour, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, H.E Dr Bello Muhammed Matawalle MON, in his remarks, said the special dinner night is in recognition of their invaluable contribution to regional security and stability. 

"And tonight, gathering, it is a testament to the enduring spirit of our nation that binds us together. On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, we extend our deepest appreciation for your commitment to sharing the vision of peace, unity, and development within the course.

"Our region has faced important security challenges. From terrorism and the insurgents to maritime security and transnational crime, through our collective effort and cooperation, we have made significant strides in tackling these threats. 

"As we stand and reflect on our shared expression, it also renews our determination to uphold the values of professionalism, resilience, and unity in our collective dependence effort. Together, we shall continue to build a safer and more prosperous West Africa. I wish you all an enjoyable evening and a fruitful celebration in the desert," he said

The highlight of the gala night was the presentation of souvenirs by Nigeria's CDS to all the Defence Chiefs at the event and the ECOWAS gifts to all participants and guests. There was also a cultural display showcasing different African cultures in diversity.
