Recovering Stolen Vehicles, Restoring Hope: Police ECMR Initiative Achieves Milestone

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully detected/recovered 3 stolen vehicles out of 7 vehicles reported/flagged in the first batch of on the ECMR platforms initiative of the NPF to reduce the incidences of stolen vehicle and related crimes to the barest minimum.

One of the stolen vehicle from Abuja was recovered in Ilorin, Kwara State and brought back to Abuja over the weekend and will be handed back to the rightful owner.

SpyeTV News report that about two weeks ago, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun directed immediate investigation to recover a second batch of 612 vehicles reported/flagged stolen on the ECMR platform. 

In same vein, 1,610 vehicles with conflicting information have been referred for investigation.

Nigeria Police Force also revealed how the stolen vehicles were recovered after the owner reported the vehicle stolen on the Stolen Vehicle Portal after providing the details of the vehicle. 

The innocent buyer applied to obtain the CMR certificate but the system triggered an alert that the vehicle had been reported/flagged stolen. This prompted Police investigation that led to the recovery.

It is interesting to observe that the stolen vehicle was re-registered twice after it was stolen by the criminals. This is meant to completely eliminate any trace whatsoever of the vehicle… it is similar to money laundering.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi also disclosed that the syndicate specializing in stealing vehicles has been bursted and one of the gang members was arrested and will be charged to court as soon as all investigation activities have been concluded.

Meanwhile, a functionality that will assist citizens who are conducting due diligence check to know the status of a vehicle before purchase, will be deployed shortly.

The Nigeria Police Force is collaborating with other agencies to ensure the security and safety of vehicular assets of citizens across the federation.
