Facing emerging security threat, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has called for heightened vigilance and proactivity, while commending the Men of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal - Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Unit for their shift action during the Ibadan Exploasion on January 16th, 2024 which heightened their indispensable role in public safety.
IGP Egbetokun gave the commendation today during a crucial meeting with the Commander, Men of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal - Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Unit of the Nigeria Police Force at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to IGP Egbetokun, "Your expertise in your safety managemenincidentscial in minimising such incidents. The growing misuse of explosives poses a great risk, hence, your surveillance in controlling explosives life cycle is key to traunting on authorized access.
"Your professionalism is vital in dominating armed and violent crime. Your specialized skills are indispensable to our national security. We are dedicated to providing continuous training and advanced technologies to further enhance your capability.
"I have the highest confidence in your dedication and commitment to our nation's profession. Your contributions are pivotal to our aspirations for economic recovery, social integration and political development.
He said the EOD dedication is a cornerstone in ensuring public safety and managing exclusive hazards. He recalled how the EOD unit has shown parallel bravery and expertise, particularly during the peak of the Boko Haram Insurgency. Your professional integrity and resilience were crucial in mitigating distress.
"A national feat includes the disarmament of an anti-disturbance by Base 13 Maiduguri on December 4th, 2023 at the entrance of the University of Maiduguri. The unit's efforts in clearing IEDs and unexploded Ordinances across the region have been instrumental in peace restoration.
The EOD RN Awka IEDs, Anambra State on January 8, 2024, following the neutralization of IPOB members and several other feats achieved by the EOD across the country in recent times, times deserves Special Commendation.
